COMPASSES: THE CLIENT’S ROADMAP
TRY IT NOW
When clients first visit your PureSBDC-built website, they are asked a simple, multiple-choice
question: “Where are you at with your small business?”
For instance, the Oregon SBDC network defined these multiple choice answers,
each reflecting a stage of a business’ development:
| THINKING | Those thinking about starting a business |
| LAUNCHING | New companies who are just getting started |
| GROWING | Established organizations who want to accelerate to the next level |
| REINVENTING | Companies adapting to change by retooling or repacking |
| EXITING | Those looking to cash-out, sell-out, or merge |

TOOLKITS
TRY IT NOW
When a client chooses a development stage, a “compass” webpage
appears which contains a set of suggested next-steps, and related tools.
These suggestions are shown as a collection of “toolkits” which each
deal with a particular topic, and contain a list of resources relevant to that topic.
For instance, Oregon’s THINKING
compass contains these toolkits:
- What’s Your Idea?
- Is Your Idea Feasible?
- What’s Your Market?
- Your Business Structure
- What is Your Business Plan?
The PureSBDC platform is very flexible, so your SBDC network can define your own compasses and
associated toolkits, then populate the toolkits with your own resources.
